Cost of New Roof

America's Choice Roofing has affordable rates that fit your budget when you price the cost of new roof. Replacing your roofing system is not installing new shingles over old, information is priceless, take the time to read this page before contacting a roofing contractor.

When selecting a new roof, there are several things to consider, other than durability and cost of new roof. The architectural style of your roof is a factor when deciding to go with shingles, a metal roof, solar panels, or any of the roofing types listed below.

  • Asphalt shingles,
  • Fiberglass shingles,
  • Corrugated aluminum,
  • Corrugated fiberglass,
  • Modified rubber,
  • Flat roofs,
  • Tile roofs,
  • and Slate roofing.

Types of Roofing

Organic shingles are made of a cellulose-fiber base saturated with asphalt and coated with colored mineral granules.

Fiberglass shingles are made from a fiberglass mat, the top and bottom layers are asphalt, and mineral granules.

Wood shingles and shakes take on the natural look of wood and they are made from cedar, redwood, southern pine, and other wood.

Tile, which is clay or concrete, is very durable but it is also heavy and the structure will have to be strong enough to support the weight.

Slate roofs are long lasting; many older homes still have their original slate roofs because it is virtually indestructible. It requires a special skill to install and can be the highest cost of new roof.

Metal roofs are becoming popular and they are very durable and fire-resistant. They come in a variety of colors and styles but the home should have a compatible architectural style so they will complement each other.

Shingles Ratings

All the different types of roofs have different ratings for fire-resistance, the most resistant being Class A, then Class B and the least resistant is Class C.

Before making your choice, you may want to verify your insurance company’s rates according to the Class of roofing material that you decide to purchase.

Ventilation and Insulation

Without proper ventilation, heat and moisture can build up and cause the rafters and sheathing to rot, the shingles can buckle and the insulation will not be effective.

Sources of ventilation include louvers, ridge or soffit vents, and should be open all year, including the winter months. This will increase the life of your roof and reduce energy consumption, which saves money on the cost of new roof.

Attics need adequate insulation and should have:
  • A gap-free layer on the attic floor
  • A vapor retarder under the insulation and next to the chimney
  • Open, vented spaces for air flow
  • A minimum of one inch between the insulation and the roof sheathing that is in place.

Other factors to consider is the elements; sun, rain, wind, hail snow and ice, condensation, moss and algae, trees and leaves, all of which can cause your roof to deteriorate.

Choosing a Contractor

Finding a reputable roofing contractor is important because you need to protect your investment, home, and family.
Your local Better Business Bureau will have accredited roofers listed and America’s Choice Roofing is accredited.

Always request a detailed, written estimate including cost of new roof, additional products, labor, and the time it will take to install. If you have old shingles, or multiple layers of shingles, that need removed and disposed of, ask for that cost to be included in the estimate as well.

Whichever product you decide on, carefully read the warranty and note any changes needed so you do not void the warranty later.
It is always wise to ask for several bids and check the company’s qualifications. If a contractor gives you a bid that is very low for the cost of new roof and sounds too good to be true, do some research and check their history and BBB reports.

The cost of a new roof is a major investment and you will want quality roofing and workmanship, with warranties. This will increase your home’s value and appearance and give you peace of mind.
